Her Royal Highness's Traditional Yuletide Musical Celebration Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the festive gathering.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to young musicians aided by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been helped by the trust, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "a dream come true."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
